The HyFlex Model

The HyFlex model is a student-friendly way to design and offer a course. Like with a hybrid course, the HyFlex model combines in-person and online content, activities, and assessments, but unlike with hybrid, in HyFlex, students can choose how they will interact with the course. Every session of a HyFlex course would be offered synchronously in-person and online as well as asynchronously online providing the maximum flexibility to students.  Offering a HyFlex course requires the instructor to fully redesign their course from the ground up. It is not feasible to modify an existing course for this model as attempting to do so will likely take much more time and effort than simply starting over would.

If you are considering offering a HyFlex course, you should read this article, "" from Educause as well as, "." HyFlex courses are becoming more popular at institutions across the country because of their flexibility and efficiency, but they are a commitment for the instructor, so it is important to consider the upsides and downsides of the model before proceeding.  If you decided to adopt the HyFlex model, the Office of Instructional Resources it here to support you.
