Panopto --> Stream
To move videos from Panopto to Stream, follow this workflow:
Locate and Download Panopto Videos
Identify the recordings which you would like to continue using.
You can locate these in a variety of ways.
- You can access the contents of your Personal My Folder by navigating to and selecting My Folder from the navigation on the left
- You can search for all of your Panopto folders by navigating to and selecting Browse and My Folders
- You can access your Panopto videos by in Blackboard by navigating to course and clicking on the video link or going to Tools > Panopto Course Folder.
For each video, you want to reuse
First, check that the content of the recording is still relevant and up to date.
Download the video in one of two ways:
- From the viewer: Click the video to open the viewer and select the download icon in the top right of the page
- From the folder view: hover over the recording a select the Settings Cog. Select the Outputs tab and then choose Download Podcast

Set Up Video Organization (one time only)
Before you begin this process for the first time, it is a good idea to determine how you would like to organize your videos. You may already have a folder in your OneDrive called "Recordings." If not, now is a good time to create one, and to set up any other video organization that would help you locate and share your videos.
BONUS: Creating a folder for each course allows you to set permissions at the folder level, making it so you don't have to change the permissions for each video separately.
- Log into Microsoft 365 and choose OneDrive from the waffle menu.
- Look for a folder called "Recordings."
- If you don't see one, select "Add New," then "Folder." Give your folder a name and select "Create."
- Locate your new folder and open it.
- Repeat Step 3 to create additional subfolders.
- For instructions on setting sharing permissions, see Sharing Course Video: Step 2: Set permssions for an entire folder

Upload Videos to Stream
Your Panopto videos will automatically download to your "Downloads" folder, which means they are taking up a lot of storage space on your computer, and are not shareable in Blackboard. To fix this, you need to upload these videos to Stream.
NOTE: Stream only allows direct uploads up to 2GB. If your video is larger than that, upload directly to your Recordings folder in OneDrive instead. From there, it will open in Stream.
- Log into Microsoft 365 and choose "Stream" from the waffle menu.
- Select "Upload."
- Locate the Downloads folder and choose the video(s) you want to upload.
- Stream will then ask you if you want to save to OneDrive or change location. If you save to OneDrive, the video will go to your main OneDrive documents folder, otherwise known as the "My Files" tab in the OneDrive menu. If you created new folders for your videos in the previous step, choose "change location" and navigate to your new folder. Click "Select."
- Select "Upload."
- Your video may take a minute or two to upload, depending on its size. Once it uploads, you will see it in Stream.
- Open your video and generate captions, choose a thumbnail, manage permissions, etc. See Manage Course Video for more information.
- Once your videos have been uploaded and checked, you can delete them from your computer to save up hard drive space. You can also delete them from Panopto
NOTE: When checking your videos on Microsoft Stream, please make sure Stream has automatically generated captions (which can take some time). If you don't have captions, click on Video settings, open Transcript and captions, and select Generate.
