Housing Accommodations
红领巾瓜报 is committed to providing an equal educational opportunity and full participation for persons with disabilities. It is the policy of the university to provide accessible places for students to live and study, with appropriate safety and security measures in place. Our Housing & Residence Life partners with the Office of Student Accommodations & Testing (OSAT) to create the communities in which students live, study, and build friendships for those who require on-campus housing accommodations.
On-campus housing accommodations are intended for individuals with a documented disability which substantially limits their ability to function daily in a residence hall environment. Reasonable housing accommodations are considered on a student-by-student basis dependent upon the information provided in the accommodations request through OSAT.
How to apply for Housing Accommodations:
Apply for Housing
Prior to requesting a housing accommodation, you must complete your housing application through Housing & Residence Life. To apply for housing, log into your myWSU Portal using your myWSU ID and password. Please review information regarding important dates for the application process. If you have any questions, please contact Housing & Residence Life at housing@wichita.edu or (316) 978-3693.
Request Accommodations with OSAT
Students who require accommodations when living on-campus must request accommodations through OSAT.
- Request for accommodations by submitting a in the AIM Student Portal.
- NOTE: When requesting accommodations, you must upload and provide relevant supporting documentation, such as doctor's letters, evaluation reports, previous accommodation plans, etc. If you do not have supporting documentation to upload at the time of completing the form, you can still submit the application. Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email that will include a link to upload additional information, if needed or when you have the documentation available. OSAT must have documentation of the disability before moving forward with the application process.
Monitor Your Email
OSAT will review your accommodations and will work with Housing & Residence Life on your accommodations request. Dependent on your completed housing application, make sure to stay connected with Housing & Residence Life and notify the office about your accommodations request. Monitor your email address for information about your new housing assignment, if applicable, based on your approved accommodation. Your housing assignment information will come from Housing & Residence Life.
Evacuation Assistance
During fire alarms and other emergencies, alarms and flashing lights, which are located throughout the residential facilities, will alert students of potential and/or imminent danger.
Service Animals
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act, service animals are dogs or, in certain circumstances, miniature horses, that assist people with disabilities in some way. They changed the law to eliminate all other service animals from protections in the act. If you have a service animal, here are some things you should know.
Under the ADA, trained service animals are welcome in restaurants, grocery stores, and public places. Store owners cannot ask what disability the person has, but can ask what the animal does for the person. For example, a mobility service animal's task can be turning on lights, picking up dropped objects, and getting help if the owner is in trouble.
Room Assignments
On-campus residence hall accommodations are available for students with disabilities. Adapted housing space is limited and spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis when the completed application and deposits are received. It is the responsibility of the student to register with the Office of Student Accommodations & Testing if special accommodations are needed when applying for housing. Students are encouraged to apply early and notify Housing & Residence Life about the accommodations request. Housing & Residence Life will respond to appropriate and reasonable housing accommodations requests in a timely manner.
