F-1 Status and Employment
- On-campus employment is allowed up to 20 hours per week during Fall and Spring semesters, up to 40 hours per week during school breaks
- F-1 students may apply for a Social Security Number (SSN) upon receiving a job offer
- After one fall and one spring semester in the U.S., students may qualify for CPT ( Curricular Practical Training) which is an opportunity to receive academic training in their major field of study.
- After completion of program, a student may apply for 12 months of post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) authorization.
- Some students may be eligible for a 24-month OPT extension if they complete a STEM degree and have a qualifying employer.
