SEVP Portal

WHAT IS THE SEVP PORTAL?  The SEVP Portal was launched in 2018 as a tool for students on OPT and STEM OPT to use to update some address and employment information.  Information updated in the SEVP Portal will be reflected in SEVIS.  Use of the SEVP Portal does not remove the requirement that you update International Student Services of changes in employment, address, or legal name.

  • During the initial OPT period, students should update employment and address information by requesting an OPT Employment Form.  Request your personalized link to the OPT Employment form here.
  • During the STEM OPT Extension period, most employment changes require submission of a new Form I-983 and student and employer memorandums.  See the STEM OPT Resources page for information on what documents must be submitted to update your employment and address information while on STEM OPT.

IS IT MANDATORY THAT I CREATE AN ACCOUNT?  No.  It is not mandatory, however, we encourage students to create an account as a way to monitor the accuracy of their employment and address information in SEVIS.  Information flows between the SEVP Portal and SEVIS.  Once you report an employment or address update to ISS, a DSO (International Student Advisor) will update SEVIS and you will be able to see the new information in the SEVP Portal typically within a few days.

HOW DO I CREATE MY SEVP PORTAL ACCOUNT?  Once you reach your OPT start date, you will be sent an email from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov to your @shockers.wichita.edu address that contains a link to create your portal account.  If you have not received this email within a few days of your OPT start date, check your spam or junk email.  The link expires in 14 days.  If the link expires, contact iss@wichita.edu and we鈥檒l reset it for you.

DOES UPDATING THE SEVP PORTAL SATISFY MY OPT/STEM OPT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS?  No.  ICE/SEVP issued policy guidance in 2019 addressing a student鈥檚 responsibility to provide a written explanation to their school detailing how their job is related to their academic major.

  • For students in their initial 12-month period of OPT, the OPT Employment Form includes space for providing the required written explanation.  We will record the explanation you provide in SEVIS and will retain the electronic record as mandated by regulation.
  • For students on STEM OPT, the job/academic major relationship is captured on the STEM OPT Student Memorandum of Understanding and in the Form I-983 Training Plan for STEM OPT Students.

IMPORTANT!

  • Employment information in the SEVP Portal should not be deleted unless the student never worked for that employer.  All employment changes should be reported directly to the DSO per the instructions on our OPT Employment page and STEM OPT Resources page.
  • The SEVP email with the link to create your SEVP Portal will be sent once you reach your OPT start date, not when OPT is approved.
  • When a student makes updates in the SEVP Portal, the DSO is not sent a notification.
