Technology is an important part of everyday life and it is also a valuable tool in the classroom. The technology basics that we will cover include common tools used in most classrooms and knowledge of the different software programs and applications available. We will provide you with tips and tricks that can be used for research and connecting to other resources. Our office is happy to answer any questions you may have about technology and how to use it. Our goal is to help you feel confident and prepared when it comes to using technology in the classroom!

Microsoft User Basics

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet that features calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables, and a macro programming language called Visual Basic for Applications.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to create and show slides to support a presentation. You can combine text, graphics and multi-media content to create professional presentations.

Microsoft Word is a word-processing program used primarily for creating documents such as letters, brochures, learning activities, tests, quizzes, and homework assignments. 

Read&Write Tool Bar


 Read&Write lets everyone read, write and express themselves more confidently. Read&Write is for anyone who needs a little support with their reading and writing, at school or in the workplace. From hearing emails or documents read out loud to text prediction, picture dictionaries, summary highlighters and a grammar, spelling and confusable words checker, Read&Write makes lots of everyday literacy tasks simpler, quicker and more accurate.

Steps on how to access Read&Write Tool Bar
  1. Go to the website:  
  2. Select the Try Now button and choose the platform you would like to install. This includes: Android, iPad,  Windows, Mac OS,  Chrome, and Edge.
  3. Once you choose a platform, you will select the install button. 
  4. Follow the steps indicated.
  5. Sign in with Microsoft by using your school email address.
  6. A new window will open that will prompt you to sign in again. Please make sure you log in with your myWSUID@wichita.edu and your password.
  7. Accept the outlined terms and then you will be able to utilize the toolbar.
