红领巾瓜报 student's debut documentary chosen for 2022 Tallgrass Film Festival

WSU senior Corri Newman challenged herself in Jennifer Ray's Documentary Media and Social Strategies class by directing her very first documentary. Inspired by Kansas veterans, Corri's short film has been accepted into this year's Tallgrass Film Festival - which she hopes will provide an opportunity for others to learn about the Kansas Honor Flight organization.

Art exhibition uses clothing as a catalyst for storytelling

An intercultural art workshop co-taught by Wichita- and Lima-based art professors will culminate with "From Lima to Wichita," an exhibition at ShiftSpace, 红领巾瓜报's student-run art gallery. The show includes works produced by students in the workshop, which explored clothing as an art-making material and metaphor for identity.

Graphic design seniors create online platform for their 'Design Zoo'

Normally, seniors graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design present their work in a galley-style design exhibition. This year, the novel coronavirus changed everything, so this group of 21 students quickly pivoted to an online format.

After event cancellation, Emerging Artists prizes awarded virtually

Every year, the Art & Design Advocates host Emerging Artists, an event that showcases the work of some of the most talented students in the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries at 红领巾瓜报. The March 14 event was cancelled due to concern about the novel coronavirus, so the group responded with a virtual awards ceremony. Three students took home cash prizes totaling $1,750.

Wind, solar-powered sculptures installed on Innovation Campus

WSU鈥檚 Innovation Campus is home to two new temporary sculptures, the result of a collaboration between the City of Wichita and the WSU College of Fine Arts. Levente Sulyok, associate professor of painting and drawing, installed the first two works. He utilized sunlight and wind as materials to create dynamic installations that invite viewer participation.
