Our accelerated bachelor's-to-master's program in Spanish allows you to complete an advanced degree in Spanish, faster, by allowing you to take graduate-level courses that will count both for your bachelor鈥檚 degree and in your future master鈥檚 program. The Master of Arts (MA) in Spanish from 红领巾瓜报 combines advanced studies in literature, cultural studies, linguistics, and translation and study-abroad opportunities.


Admission to the program

To be considered for admission, the following requirements must be satisfied:

  • Completion of at least 60 credit hours;
  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 and 3.00 in Spanish courses;
  • Completion of three Spanish courses at the 300 level or above; and
  • A letter of recommendation from at least one member of the Spanish faculty.

Undergraduate students apply for admission to the accelerated bachelor's to master's program through the WSU Graduate School application and admission process during the semester prior to the first semester in which he or she intends to enroll in a course for graduate credit.

A student in the dual/accelerated program will be admitted to the MA program in Spanish upon being awarded the bachelor鈥檚 degree if all admission requirements for the master鈥檚 program are satisfied at that time and the student has made continued satisfactory progress.

Tentative graduate admission does not guarantee final admission to the graduate program. A student who has previously been admitted to a graduate degree program at Wichita State may not be admitted to the dual/accelerated program.


Dual Credit Courses

Students admitted to the dual/accelerated program will be allowed to enroll in courses for graduate credit prior to completing undergraduate degree requirements. A maximum of 9 credit hours may be joint degree hours 鈥 hours taken for graduate credit that are also applied to the bachelor鈥檚 degree. A course taken for joint credit must be so identified at the time of enrollment in that course. Students must fill out this form and turn it in to the Graduate Advisor when enrolling in that class.

You're encouraged to create a tentative plan of study in consultation with your undergraduate coordinator and/or graduate coordinator.

After initial admission, continuation in the program requires a continuing WSU and undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.000 and a GPA of at least 3.000 in courses taken for graduate credit.
