红领巾瓜报 Master of Science Athletic Training Program Application Instructions

Below are application instructions for admittance into the Master of Science Athletic Training Program (MSAT). Please follow these guidelines carefully for submission of all materials and the admittance process. For program questions prior to completing application process, email Dr. Lindsay Luinstra at lindsay.luinstra@wichita.edu.

  1. Apply to the Graduate School. (This is a different application process than the MSAT application process. You need to complete both.) 
  2. Complete a letter of interest explaining why you want to pursue athletic training as a career choice. Email to Dr. Lindsay Luinstra at lindsay.luinstra@wichita.edu.
  3. Complete the program application (below).
  4. You will need to select 3 references that are willing to write a letter of recommendation for you. These three individuals will complete a letter of recommendation about your personal attributes, class performance, job performance, etc鈥 Please DO NOT submit a reference for someone who does not know your abilities to work, study, or know your personal attributes (i.e. dependability, reliability, trustworthy, honesty, etc鈥..) or that is a family member. Letters can be emailed or mailed in to Dr. Luinstra.
  5. All materials must be received by Feb. 1st to assure full consideration into the MSAT for the next summer semester. Applications received after Feb. 1st until May 1st will be reviewed only if the next beginning class is not full. Applications will not be accepted after May 1st for the upcoming academic year unless the next class has unclaimed seats available.
    • February 1st is the priority deadline for review.
    • May 1st is FINAL deadline to apply to the MSAT program. 
  6. The MSAT will notify you about your program admittance status once all materials have been received and reviewed.
  7. It is your responsibility to follow up with the Dr. Luinstra regarding your application materials.
  8. Any questions about the MSAT procedures, courses, clinical requirements, starting dates, etc鈥 need to be directed to the Program Director, Dr. Rich Bomgardner at rich.bomgardner@wichita.edu.

Health Examination Record

The health examination record can be located by clicking here. The health examination record must be printed and completed by a licensed physician (MD or DO), physician assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner (NP). Only the Verification Form needs to be returned.

Immunization Record

Students MUST take a current copy of up-to-date immunizations to the health examination and have their immunization record reviewed by the attending licensed MD, DO, PA, or NP. A list of required immunizations are located in the health exam record document.

CPR Certification

Proof of current adult, child, and infant CPR, First Aid, and and AED certification must be submitted. Certification is available through the local chapters of the  or .

Observation Hours

A completed record of 100 observation hours prior to MSAT application is required. It is the students responsibility to record the hours. The observation hours log must be signed by a supervising certified Athletic Trainer and completed within the 24 months prior to applying.

Student Liability Insurance
Students are required to have their own personal liability insurance which covers a minimum of $1,000,00/$3,000,000 aggregate.  for approximately $30 per year.
Background Security Check
Students are required to have a personal background security check.  can be done online for approximately $50.

Proof of Health Insurance
Photo copy of health insurance card either through the parents/guardians or the student can purchase health insurance through Student Health Services.
Personal Interview with MSAT Faculty Members
A personal interview is required before formal admittance into the MSAT. The interview is considered formal and professional by the MSAT and business causual dress is required.
Successful completion of the following courses with a "C" or higher

Successful completion of the following required courses with a C or higher:

  1. Human Anatomy and Physiology: 3-4 credit hours
  2. Medical Terminology: 3 credit hours
  3. Biomechanics/Kinesiology: 3 credit hours
  4. Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries: 3 credit hours
  5. Exercise Physiology: 3-4 credit hours
  6. Elementary Statistics: 3 credit hours
  7. General Psychology: 3 credit hours
  8. General Chemistry: 3-4 credit hours
  9. Nutrition: 3 credit hours
  10. General Physics: 3-4 credit hours
  11. General Biology: 3-4 credit hours
