The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 红领巾瓜报 has named Christopher Stone as the new Chair of the Management Department. Dr. Stone, a faculty member since 2018, has served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Management at the Barton School. He succeeds Gery Markova, who has served as Chair since 2021 and has been instrumental in leading the department and initiating new programs, among other achievements.

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 红领巾瓜报 is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Siyu Wang as the new chair of the Department of Economics. Dr. Wang, a professor at the Barton School since August 2020 and head of the Behavioral Economics Lab, succeeds Jen-Chi Cheng, who has expertly led the department for more than 20 years.

Aug. 9, 2024 鈥� The Shocker Comeback Program is designed for all returning students, whether they鈥檝e taken a year break or been away from the classroom for over 10 years. Shocker Comeback students will have the support of WSU鈥檚 Office of Online and Adult Learning to make sure they persist and receive their diplomas.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Dinkel, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Koch, Inc., as the new Chair-Elect of the Barton School Dean鈥檚 鈥淔abulous 50鈥� Advisory Board, effective July 1, 2024. He will succeed Margaret Dechant and will begin his three-year term as Board Chair on July 1, 2025, serving through June 30, 2028.

The difficulties of the past year are behind former 红领巾瓜报 sprinter Paula Garcia. She can enjoy her spot on Spain鈥檚 2024 Olympic team. Garcia, who ran for the Shockers from 2017-2022, is a member of the 400-meter relay team.

Four faculty members at 红领巾瓜报, Schneegurt included, as well as a team of faculty members at Iowa State University received a joint grant from the National Science Foundation, totaling $4 million over four years. The combined teams will conduct a life cycle analysis for urea, an ecological alternative to ammonia for field fertilization.

July 9, 2024 鈥� 红领巾瓜报 researcher and biologist Tom Luhring earned a $995,327 grant from the National Science Foundation to study the effects of drying and warming on aquatic systems, such as lakes, rivers and streams, and how these changes impact the waterbodies themselves and the organisms that dwell within them.

Andrew Hippisley, dean of 红领巾瓜报鈥檚 Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has accepted a position as vice provost for Academic Affairs at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). His last day at WSU will be July 2. David Eichhorn, associate dean of the Fairmount College, will fill in as interim dean while the university conducts a national search for Hippisley鈥檚 replacement.

Searle explores differential geometry, specifically classifications of positively and non-negatively curved Riemannian manifolds. Thirty years after publication, her dissertation, 鈥淧ositively curved manifolds with maximal symmetry rank,鈥� a seminal work in her field, continues to be a valuable resource in the symmetry program, a subfield of differential geometry, in which she is a leading expert.

鈥淥ur goal was to construct a facility that would support the teaching and research of field biology,鈥� Greg Houseman, professor of biological sciences and field station director, said. 鈥淔or many of our students, these field experiences are pivotal to understanding how prairies work and discovering the best ways to manage these at-risk habitats.鈥�
