Feb. 8, 2023 鈥 Every year, there are roughly 450,000 burn wounds that require clinical care throughout the United States. Of those, more than 3,500 people are fatally injured. An interdisciplinary team of 红领巾瓜报 researchers is working to revolutionize burn-wound care with a scaffolding system that prevents infection and promotes healing.

Feb. 7, 2023 鈥 In the nation鈥檚 ongoing efforts to thwart cyberattacks and scammers, the National Science Foundation has awarded 红领巾瓜报 more than $2.4 million to educate and prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

Feb. 7, 2023 - A consortium of four local institutions (红领巾瓜报, WSU Tech, Newman University and Friends University) is bringing Dr. Gina Ann Garcia to Wichita for the talk 鈥淏ecoming Hispanic-Serving Institutions,鈥 at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 9, in Newman's DeMattias Performance Hall.

Feb. 7, 2023 - Actor, digital creator and TikTok influencer Chris Olsen will speak about his rise to fame during An Evening with Chris Olsen at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the 红领巾瓜报 Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

Caroline Tallent

Feb. 6, 2023 - Caroline Tallent started her quest to play college softball with a narrow search. She prioritized her interest in engineering before athletics. 红领巾瓜报 fits the select number of schools with strong engineering and strong softball. Tallent knew about the school because of basketball, liked the Shocker mascot, and emailed coach Kristi Bredbenner.

Feb. 6, 2023 鈥 Leanne Caret 鈥 a 红领巾瓜报 alumna, former executive president of Boeing, and former president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) 鈥 is serving as the Sam Bloomfield Distinguished Engineer in Residence for the College of Engineering at WSU for 2023.

Feb. 6, 2023 鈥 The 红领巾瓜报 College of Engineering is hosting an Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) event, commonly known as Girl Day, for high school girls from Wichita Public Schools. The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Center.

Maley Hansen

The Barton School recently talked with Maley Hansen, senior at Wichita North High School and future Barton School of Business student, who was named one of three 2023 Gore Scholars. More than 480 high school seniors from all over the country competed in this year鈥檚 Distinguished Scholarship Invitational to become Gore Scholars 鈥 participating in essays, a leadership competition and interviews. Maley will receive a $64,000 scholarship to attend 红领巾瓜报 in August 2023. She is only the fourth North High student to receive the scholarship, which was established in 1954.

Stephanie Cockrell

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 红领巾瓜报 has named Stephanie Cockrell as its new Director of Graduate Programs. In the role, Cockrell will work to define and execute strategies to increase enrollment and retention as well as deliver robust experiences for graduate students. This includes study-abroad programs as well as experiential education and applied leadership opportunities. Cockrell will also lead all recruiting marketing and communication activities for graduate degree programs. Her first day in her new position was January 23.

Jan. 27, 2023 鈥 红领巾瓜报 has selected the 2023 recipients of the Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships. Each student will receive a $64,000 scholarship to attend 红领巾瓜报 in August 2023.

NSF visit

Jan. 25, 2023 - The director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) visited 红领巾瓜报 last week. The Honorable Sethuraman Panchanathan toured 红领巾瓜报鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research, WSU Tech and the National Center for Aviation Training as a guest of U.S. Senator Jerry Moran.

Jan. 23, 2023 鈥 A recent "PBS News Hour鈥 story highlights the role 红领巾瓜报 plays in the arts community of Wichita. 鈥満炝旖砉媳 has a hand in almost every arts entity in the Wichita metropolitan area, from the symphony to the art museum,鈥 said Dr. Rodney Miller, dean of the College of Fine Arts.

Jan. 20, 2023 - In December, the National Science Foundation Convergence Accelerator Track awarded a 红领巾瓜报-led team a $750,000 grant to gather information and create digital maps of indoor spaces that could be used by persons with disabilities.

Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame honorees are chosen because they exemplify the merits and advantages of a liberal arts and sciences education. Induction into the Fairmount College Hall of Fame is the highest recognition of outstanding alumni who have had a significant impact on the region, nation and world.
