Student Health Services Financial Payments
Payment expectations
- A student will never be refused healthcare due to inability to pay.
- Student Health accepts cash, checks, and credit cards including HSA cards. If you have a Credit Card, Heath Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) card with your parents' name, this card can be used at either the portal or myWSU account.
- If you cannot pay for services at the time of your appointment, your payment options
are as follows:
- Student Health Portal: you may log into the portal and make your payment. Credit, debit or HSA cards only.
- Your myWSU student account: the fee will be placed on your myWSU account immediately following accrual of a balance unless other arrangements have been made.
- If contraceptive prescriptions are not paid when a refill is picked up, future refills will be called out to a pharmacy of your choice until the previous balance has been paid.
- Please note: Per WSU policy, non-payment of charges on your myWSU student account could result in a financial hold.
Health Insurance
Health insurance is not required to receive services at Student Health.
Student Health Services will submit claims for: United HealthCare Student Resources
(UHCSR), Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), AETNA.
Claims submitted to other insurance companies will be considered out of network (see
below). Please speak with our billing specialist if you have questions about coverage.
If you do not have your insurance information when you receive services at Student
Health Services, we will put the charges on your myWSU student account until you provide
your insurance information.
* We are unable to file claims with Medicare, Medicaid or Tricare.
You will be responsible for the balance on your account or any charges not paid by
your insurance.
Requests not to bill insurance
If you do not want a claim sent to your insurance, you must pay for the services at checkout and complete an authorization informing the front office staff of this choice.
Payments when billing insurance
Insurance does not necessarily pay all charges. Insurance coverage rates vary from
plan to plan.
We will submit the claim to the insurance company after your visit.
When your insurance company responds to the claim, they will communicate how much
of the claim will be paid by insurance and how much the patient (you) are responsible
to pay. Any amount not covered by the insurance company will be added to your myWSU
student account.
You will receive an email notification with your balance to be paid.
Out of Network Insured or Un-Insured
If you do not have health insurance, or if Student Health Services is considered an out-of-network provider, you may be asked to pay at the time of service. Although payment is expected, it is not a prerequisite to receiving services. Some insurance plans, especially health plans outside of Kansas, require a referral to see non- network providers. You are responsible to obtain such referrals and should contact your insurance plan to inquire about its out-of-network policies.
Financial Hardship
It is our policy to make special efforts to assist students who self-identify as unable to pay the discounted fees for healthcare services on balances over $200. If you have special healthcare needs and are unable to afford the discounted rates, please email student.health@wichita.edu to apply for a hardship discount.
