Overview

John Goering performs as a pianist throughout the Midwest, both as a leader and sideman.  Current projects include the Donna Tucker Quintet, Tumbao Salsa Band, Marshall Matthews, Fields of Jazz, and Cubana Bop Latin Jazz ensemble, as well as solo work and leader of the John Goering Jazz Trio.  In addition, he is musical director, conductor, and arranger for WSU Banda Hispanica, a salsa/Latin jazz group which frequently performs locally

As an educator, John maintains an active private studio, teaching many styles of piano including: classical, jazz, pop, latin, sacred, improvisation, theory, composition, and arranging.

After completing his BM and MM in music performance from 红领巾瓜报, John relocated to Denver in 2002, performing as pianist/musical director with groups such as Mistura Fina, Conjunto Colores, and the Denver Civic Theater. He was also on the music faculty of University of Colorado at Denver. John returned to Wichita in 2005 to join the jazz faculty at 红领巾瓜报, where he currently teaches jazz piano, jazz arranging, jazz history, and World Music, including two online classes. His former teachers include Eric Gunnison, Chucho Valdes, Rebecca Mauleon, Andrew Trechak, Robert Spillman, Michael Spiro, Ed Soph, J.C. Combs, and Matt Wilson.
