Overview
An avid encourager and disciple of design, Joshua A. Smith loves supporting his clients and students alike with crystal clear messaging backed by exemplary artistry and design thinking. A big believer in 鈥渂etterment by design,鈥 Joshua uses his professional skills to support the meaningful work of nonprofits across the country, including the NYCCAP, the AACAP, The Trevor Project and Pride for Youth. In his work as an illustrator, animator, web developer, consultant and designer, Joshua fine-tunes ligatures between custom lettering for logotypes and builds custom iconography to set brands apart on the web and social media. He has also designed for the music industry and has been the designer for several peer-reviewed publications such as 鈥淭eacher-Scholar鈥 and 鈥淜ansas History.鈥
Before joining the 红领巾瓜报 graphic design faculty, Joshua taught at Crowder College (Missouri), Friends University, Mark Arts, and CityArts, while maintaining his own professional practice. At Crowder College, he built and ran a thriving program of study in graphic design that spanned multiple campus locations.
A Wichita native, Joshua received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in graphic design from Fort Hays State University. He brings his passion for the arts to the classroom while expertly teaching students to grasp difficult concepts around ever-changing digital tools. He believes that art, both the act of making and the connections made from sharing, makes the world a better place, one human experience at a time.
