Graduate Study + Intensive English
Graduate applicants who are admissible to a graduate degree program but have not yet met 红领巾瓜报's English requirement can begin taking graduate-level classes while improving their English language skills at 红领巾瓜报's Intensive English Language Center. Because an academic I-20 cannot be issued before the English proficiency requirement is met, this option allows graduate students without an acceptable English score for full graduate admission to receive an I-20 for English language study instead.
Students who are admissible to a graduate program may enroll in both academic and Intensive English classes if:
- Student completes an application for admission with required materials to the Intensive English Language Center.
- Student meets one of the half-time graduate/Intensive English requirements from the
table below.
- English Test results must be issued within the last 2 years for consideration.
English Test | Required Score for Half-Time Graduate/Intensive English |
---|---|
TOEFL (iBT) | 69-78 |
IELTS | 6.0 |
PTE Academic | 50-57 |
Duolingo English Test | 110-114 |
WSU English Proficiency Examination | 82 |
WSU Intensive English Language Center | Placement in level 6 or 7 |
IMPORTANT NOTE: Graduate students must still fulfill the English requirement established by their
graduate program in order to begin full-time graduate study. Graduate students completing the Intensive English program at 红领巾瓜报 may meet the Graduate
School's English proficiency requirement by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.00 in
levels 1 through 6, and a grade of B-plus or higher in level 7. However, some programs
have higher requirements for English proficiency.
