OktoberFest

Perhaps a college campus is not the most appropriate place to promote beer, but it is a great place to promote culture.  In the spirit of cultural celebrations, the Cohen Honors College proudly uplifts the traditions, the food, and the festivities that highlight the German cultural celebration Oktoberfest.  Originating on October 12, 1810, in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, this over 200-year tradition has become the "IT" event of Munich Germany, complete with rides, music, dancing, and several cultural events.  The event lasts two weeks, beginning with the mayor of Munich tapping the first keg of beer for an event that draws more than 6 million people who consume roughly 2 million gallons of beer.  Oktoberfest began on Saturday, September 17, 2022 and will end this Saturday, October 1, 2022.

News & Information

Friends And Family Weekend in Honors

Image of people standing in the honors lounge and looking at different aspects of the honors college. Honors was proud to be a part of Friends and Family Weekend on Saturday,  September 24, 2022, from 2pm to 4pm.  Despite a rough start with Dr. Harrison wasting 2.5 gallons of non-alcoholic pina colada in the Honors Lounge and a last minute location change, the event was an overwhelming success.  More than 100 people (including students and family) visited the college, played an interactive bingo, enjoyed frozen drinks, won t-shirts, and listened to popular tunes spun by local performer DJ Clash.  Special thanks to graduate assistant Michaela Roper and ambassadors Tyler Bayliff and Danielle Goodwin, and to fifth grade students Max and Tatum from the Textron Tenacious Men for helping make the event a success.

Honors offers students a different way to do their degree, designed to be broader, deeper, or more complex than traditional college study. Most Honors courses & experiences also meet general education or major requirements. They simply push you farther. They may require additional research or creative activity, encourage collaboration or independent problem solving, or engage you outside the classroom in integrative and reflective applied learning.

Visit the Current Students page on the college website for general information about Honors curriculum paths and other opportunities in Honors. We also have a suggested honors course sequence page that shows different options for honors experiences over four years. You can view and change your honors track in the Change of Major app in your MyWSU portal, and the honors academic advisor, Jessi Raburn, is available by appointment virtually or in person to guide you as you make decisions. Contact her at jessica.raburn@wichita.edu.
