Welcome from Kimberly Engber, Dean
Honors Colleagues and Friends
Welcome, to the fall semester! Welcome to the threshold of the 鈥渟eason of mists and mellow fruitfulness,鈥 as poet John Keats describes it in 鈥.鈥 Keats started study toward the medical profession but finding that work too grim for his temperament, he turned instead to the heroes and muses of poetry. By the time he composed 鈥淭o Autumn鈥 in 1819, he had gained confidence in his theory of 鈥渘egative capability,鈥 a kind of imaginative open-mindedness.
May we all go forward into this season with imaginative open-mindedness. Soon you may feel your schedule overtake you. You will be hard at work growing and harvesting, just as nature will be in autumn, and we hope you鈥檒l also find pleasure in the fruits of your labor.
The weekly update sent on Friday each week shares opportunities such as scholarships, internships, and leadership programs as well as community service and social events. We feature student profiles and kudos for faculty and students so you can see just some of the ambitions and accomplishments in this community of scholars.

Katie Dunlop: Cohen Enhancement Experience
Honors student Katie Dunlop recently completed a study-abroad program in Peru, partially funded by the Cohen Enhancement Scholarship. While in Peru, Katie took two courses, Medical Spanish and Community Health, and went on weekend excursions to Cusco, Iquitos, and Ica. Katie participated in this program to globally expand her medical knowledge, observe a foreign healthcare system, and practice speaking Spanish in a professional medical setting.
When asked about her Cohen Enhancement Scholarship experience, Katie said "I encourage people to apply for this scholarship, especially to study abroad. Studying abroad gave me a whole new perspective and helped me see the healthcare system in another country."
Learn more about the Cohen Enhancement Scholarship here. Applications are due October 15th and February 15th.

Honors offers students a different way to do their degree, designed to be broader, deeper, or more complex than traditional college study. Most Honors courses & experiences also meet general education or major requirements. They simply push you farther. They may require additional research or creative activity, encourage collaboration or independent problem solving, or engage you outside the classroom in integrative and reflective applied learning.
