Stuart Lasine

Stuart LasineStuart Lasine is Professor of Religion in the Ransom-Butler Department of Religion at WSU. Dr. Lasine joined the WSU Religion Department in 1984. He had previously taught biblical studies, comparative literature, classics, and interdisciplinary humanities at The Ohio State University, Western Washington University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and The University of Michigan. From 1996-1999 Dr. Lasine served as Graduate Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program here at WSU.

Dr. Lasine is the author of over forty articles on biblical studies and comparative literature, as well as three books (Knowing Kings: Knowledge, Power, and Narcissism in the Hebrew Bible [SBL Press, 2001], Weighing Hearts: Character, Judgment, and the Ethics of Reading the Bible [Continuum, 2012] and Jonah and the Human Condition: Life and Death in Yahweh鈥檚 World [Bloomsbury, 2019]). In addition to making scholarly presentations throughout the United States and Europe, he has appeared on the A&E Network and the History Channel, in Biography and Mysteries of the Bible.

Rannfrid Thelle

Rannfrid Thelle is Assistant Professor of Religion in the Department of Women鈥檚 Studies and Religion. She earned her PhD in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible at the University of Oslo, Norway, where she taught biblical studies for several years. At WSU, Rannfrid Thelle teaches New Testament, Old Testament, Women and the Bible, Violence and the Bible, Archaeology and the Bible, and occasionally also Biblical Hebrew.


Dr. Thelle鈥檚 book Discovering Babylon is due to appear in 2018. Her other books include, Ask God: Divine Consultation in the Literature of the Hebrew Bible (Peter Lang: 2002) and Approaches to the Chosen Place: Accessing a Biblical Concept (Continuum, 2012), as well as the edited volume New Perspectives on Old Testament Prophecy and History (2015). Dr. Thelle has published over a dozen journal articles on biblical prophecy, holy war, and history of research. Rannfrid enjoys traveling, and has taken numerous groups on study tours to countries in the Middle East and elsewhere. Dr. Thelle is also a frequent speaker at various community venues for adult education in Wichita.
