What made you decide to study Sport Management at WSU?
Originally I wanted to be a high school math teacher and a golf and basketball coach. Then as I moved through my last couple years of high school I decided I wanted my coaching to focus on golf and I wanted to coach at a higher level than high school. So, I decided right before I came to WSU to do Sport Management and it was the best decision I have ever made. I love it!
Tell us about any Internships you have done or are currently doing? What do you hope to learn from your internship experience?
I did my practicum last spring with the Air Capital Classic which is a tour golf tournament here in Wichita. I loved it so much that I pursued doing my internship with them this year as well. I am currently working for them again this year and learning so many things. They let me do so many different tasks in this position and I am so grateful for those opportunities and the people I have met along the way. Some of the people involved in the tournament are like family to me. It all started when a staff member from Air Capital Classic came in and spoke to my sports marketing class with Dr. Kim. Before that I did not even know that the tournament existed.
What are your career goals?
I want to stay in golf for sure and right now my all-time goal would be a Division 1 head golf coach. I also think it would be cool to work for the PGA Tour.
What has been your favorite course that you have taken during your time in Sport Management?
My favorite sport management class was probably human resource management or sport law. There honestly wasn't a sport management class that I didn't like but those two were my favorite.
If a friend asked about your time in the program, what would you tell them?
I have met some of my best friends through this program and I truly believe that the program has prepared me for wherever my career takes me. I have learned so many valuable lessons in all aspects of the sport industry. I have a passion for sports and going through this program with other students and teachers that share that same passion has been an amazing journey.
What do you plan to do after you finish the program?
After I graduate from the program I plan to get my masters and pursue a career in coaching golf or something in the golf industry.
What have you learned in this program that you plan on taking with you once you graduate?
I have learned how critical it is to work with other people because there is not a job in the sport industry that you can do alone. Every job within sports requires you to work with other people and be a team.
In five words or less, how would you describe the Sport Management program?
Countless friends and endless opportunities.
