Ashley Bell Barnett
What is your current position and can you give us a brief overview? For the past 4 1/2 years, I have been with the Oklahoma City Thunder, working as an Account Manager. In this role you work directly with season ticket holders, managing a portfolio of over 300 accounts, retaining their loyalty, keeping them engaged, and customizing their experience as a full season ticket member. It is a wonderful role that relies on your ability to maintain relationships, stay organized, understand your portfolio (where your clients live, what their hobbies are, how you can tie in Thunder experiences into their lives), and really elevate their experience as a season ticket holder. WSU Sport Management plays a key role in success of NCAA tournament
WSU Sport Management was well represented as Wichita's INTRUST Bank Arena played host to this year鈥檚 NCAA Division I Women鈥檚 Regional Tournament. SMGT鈥檚 Mike Ross and Brad Pittman returned to their previous roles played in support of the NCAA Men鈥檚 Basketball Tournament in 2018. SMGT Alumni were also well represented by NCAA site representative Kurt McGuffin(Athletic Director at Tennessee-Martin), and interim College Dean, Clay Stoldt, who did statistics for Westwood One Radio and the NCAA Network, and Dr. Jeff Noble who served as the press conference moderator for the tournament. SMGT students also got a once-in-a-lifetime experience working behind the scenes. Lucy Schneider said she was grateful for the experience, and it is something she will never forget. For a regional host city with no local teams in play, Wichita came in second in attendance to Greensboro, N.C., which had two local teams being represented.
