Shared spaces introduce students to collaboration

Shared spaces physician assistant

The operating room is a shared space with high stakes and a need for precision, communication and cooperation.

It helps to practice with gloves and gowns on. Over and over again, if necessary.

At WSU Old Town, physician assistant students from ϱ work and study in the building with WSU Tech students. The co-location of institutions creates opportunities for faculty and students to share experiences, lessons and equipment.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday here are 10 open spaces in the Next Level training sessions scheduled for today and Wednesday. CMS trainings and open labs are on the schedule through the end of September.

Tip of the Day: Building forms

Building forms in the new system is dead simple and really feature-rich. The interface makes it very easy to replace migrated Department Tools form with a new form asset.

That's great, because the new form will be accessible in ways that Department Tools forms are not, plus you'll get email reporting and a lot of other features not available to you before.

Click on the accordion below for full instructions.

Learn how to replace a migrated DT Form

To replace a DT form, open the page that holds the migrated form in one window and then open another window and navigate to the assets listing under the Content pulldown inside OUC.

For the existing form, mentally map out the content elements from top to bottom. For instance, maybe the DT form has, starting at the top, the following:

  • 5 text fields
  • 1 radio button set
  • 2 text fields
  • 3 multi-line text fields (text area)

Form Elements interfaceNext, in the Assets window, create a new form and locate the form elements interface on the lefthand side of the page. Just click the new element buttons to match what you have in the list. For the form outlined above, for instance, you start with five text fields. Thus, you click the plus button for text fields five times. Then there's a radio button set, so you click the plus button for the Radio Buttons button once. Then two text fields, etc.

After your elements are in place, go back through them and add Labels (the question or information type you're requesting from the user) and Names (The results headers only viewable in the spreadsheet) for each element. You'll have lots of options for making elements required or setting validation.

Additional information on all the elements and options is available at http://support.omniupdate.com/oucampus10/reusable-content/assets/form-asset.html

If you want to receive an email when a user submits a form, you should add to the email messages area and check the box for email reporting that says “include all submitted values.”  Otherwise you'll get notified when somebody posts, but won't be able to see in the email notification what they entered. You'll also need to add a Success message (or choose a confirmation page) and a Failure message.

When you're done and the asset is saved and published, go back to the page with the original form and delete the old form. Insert your new asset in the appropriate location then save and publish.

It's a good idea to test your form immediately to make sure you've got it set up correctly. Any changes to the form must be done in the asset, not on the page where the asset is embedded.
