Welcome, Shockers! We鈥檙e excited to have you here. There's no doubt that this will be a unique year, and we'll all have to come together as Shockers to make it a success. Social distancing, face coverings and a rigorous cleaning regime are just some of the precautions we鈥檙e taking to make sure you can continue to learn and grow as Shockers in a safe environment. What to expect this semester

The fall 2020 semester is here. For some of you, this is your first time attending 红领巾瓜报 鈥 the beginning of your life as a full-fledged Shocker. For others, you are returning to a school year that looks quite different than this time last year.

For all of you, we want you to know that every day for the past six months, we鈥檝e been working tirelessly to create an environment that will allow you to receive a high-quality education and college experience while keeping your safety at heart as we all co-exist with the COVID-19 virus.

We know there are countless questions and concerns that you and your loved ones have right now. Please know that we are all in this together and we are confident that this will be an amazing year for you as a Shocker!

Have you made strong connections with other students, faculty or staff either in-person or remotely? One of the best ways to make progress this semester is to get connected to people, resources and services on campus. Engage early in class to get to know other students and your instructors.

  • The study was published in the Aug. 3, 2020 issue of Science Translational Medicine.
  • The study reveals how molecule protease inhibitors show potency against human coronaviruses.

Policy 2.17/ Student Academic Integrity updates

This policy is being revised to remove the procedures from the policy. Specific changes made were :

  1. Name Change from Student Academic Honesty to Student Academic Integrity
  2. Included General Counsel under People/Groups involved in review
  3. Reduced definitions in the policy to only define what was mentioned in this policy. (A full list of definitions is included in the handbook)
  4. Faculty Senate approves all procedural changes (in the admin procedures section) Reorganized Policy sections to fit with the WSU Policy on policies

The procedures document, now titled Academic Integrity Handbook, is being revised to:

  1. Reworded purpose to make the purpose clear and consistent with 2.17 Student Academic Integrity
  2. Clarified and added some more definitions
  3. Introduced the Complainant and Respondent Expectations
  4. Outlined specific procedures in hearing Academic cases through Student Conduct & Community Standards
  5. Removed sanctions that were Conduct specific, and not Academic Integrity Specific
  6. Outlined a specific Appeal process
  7. Changed the types of Holds used for Academic Cases
  8. Added a records statement

Academic Convocation is an exciting event that blends our Common Read program with other student learning and engagement opportunities. Winners of the 2020 University Faculty Awards will be recognized, and the event will feature presentations from SGA President Rija Khan and a special keynote address.

This year's guest speaker is Mark E. McCormick, author of Some Were Paupers, Some Were Kings.

Wichita Transit

Wichita Transit takes over Shocker bus routes

The city of Wichita鈥檚 transit department will be assuming operations of the Shocker bus service beginning Aug. 17. There will be a total of four 红领巾瓜报 routes, tentatively set to begin Aug. 17.

Welcomefest takes place during the beginning of each semester and features dozens of activities. Hosted by various student groups and campus departments, most events are free and give all students a chance to get acquainted with each other, learn campus and find ways to connect with the community. Join Campus Recreation and Wellness Services from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Aug. 18) right outside of the Heskett Center for a welcome to campus! Open to students, faculty and staff, this event showcases all the programs and services we offer. Due to current conditions, masks are required and hand sanitizers will be available for use.

Registration still available for free virtual tour Tuesday of Wichita artist Ann Resnick's studio

Get an exclusive tour of a Wichita artist's studio from the comfort of your home! Join the Ulrich Museum of Art at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Aug. 18), when Wichita-based artist Ann Resnick gives us a tour of her studio, and talks about her past and present projects.

In 1997, with artist Kevin Mullins, Resnick co-founded Project, a gallery in downtown Wichita that sought to create a conduit from artists active on the East and West coasts to the Midwest. She has exhibited in Kansas, Missouri New York, North Carolina, and Japan.

Resnick's virtual tour -- like all Ulrich Virtual programs -- is free and open to the public, but registration is required to get the .

In April 2020, a campuswide coalition of students, faculty, and staff assembled to create Shockers Vote! This is 红领巾瓜报's plan to increase civic learning, political engagement and voting rates in our campus community. The coalition's efforts are streamlined for 红领巾瓜报 to become a Voter Friendly Campus!

Join us this fall semester during several virtual round tables, voter registrations, events and more, as we prepare for Election Day 2020 and create the joy in voting!

A First-Generation Student Organization meeting will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in 261 Rhatigan Student Center.

The First-Generation Student Organization (FGSO) seeks to raise awareness within Wichita State University鈥檚 student and professional community through activities and programs designed to foster the education of first-generation students.

Plus, we have the pleasure of hosting President Jay Golden and Vice President for Student Affairs Teri Hall.
