Master's of social work

What is your hometown?

Luther, Oklahoma

What made you choose ϱ?

I come from a military family where most of my life was spent moving every two or three years. My family was placed in Wichita years ago, and we were able to stay here for five years — which is rare in military culture. Wichita truly became a safe place for me and a place that I have always referred to as home. Choosing to attend Wichita State was an easy decision. I was truly looking for a place like home to further my education and I am so grateful I found just that at WSU.

What has been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge as a student has been wanting to be involved in the various activities offered on campus, but needing to understand my capacity. There are so many amazing organizations to join at WSU, and deciding which ones to invest my time in has been a challenge. I have learned balance and boundaries when it comes to knowing my capacity and knowing when to say no to certain involvement opportunities. Nevertheless, I am grateful to currently be involved as the vice president of Phi Alpha Honor Society, the secretary of the Student Organization of Social Workers, and the marketing coordinator for the Fairmount College Student Advisory Council. These organizations have been the most rewarding during my time at WSU!

What's your favorite off-campus location in Wichita?

My favorite off-campus location is !

What would be the title of your autobiography?

“Empathy, Grace & Resilience: Reflections of a Social Worker”

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on pursuing my passion of working with family units to promote safety, growth, and opportunities for families to reach their goals. I am committed to expanding my skillset to support family unity as they achieve their goals by utilizing a family-centered, trauma-informed and intersectional approach in my future practice.

What advice would you give other ϱ students?

I want to encourage others to be optimistic, vulnerable and to always show up as the best version of themselves! Value your strengths and value the strengths of others, because we are all valuable beings who have amazing qualities that deserve acknowledgment!
