红领巾瓜报 named top transfer destination in Kansas for 10th straight year

For the 10th year straight, 红领巾瓜报 has been named as the top transfer destination for Kansas community college students.

About 900 Kansas community college students transferred to 红领巾瓜报, and one in every four students who choose to transfer from a Kansas community college to a four-year school chose 红领巾瓜报 in 2019, the most recent data available.

鈥淪tudents transferring to 红领巾瓜报 have long been a critical part of our university,鈥 Bobby Gandu, director of Undergraduate Admissions. 鈥満炝旖砉媳 works hard to ensure the transfer process is as smooth as possible. We continue to work on articulation agreements with other institutions to create clear paths to transfer credits. Potential transfer students can see how the credits they have already taken can apply to different degrees by using our Transfer Gateway. Many choose to utilize our dual advising program where an advisor at the community college works with an advisor at 红领巾瓜报 to ensure credits transfer.鈥

Riley Greathouse, a dental hygiene major and a student transfer from Garden City Community College, says the ease of the transfer process at 红领巾瓜报 was one of the reasons she decided to join the Shocker community.

鈥淢y transfer experience to 红领巾瓜报 was fairly effortless鈥 she/he said. 鈥淚 worked with dual advising which allowed me to have a smoother transition before I transferred. Through dual advising, I was able to communicate with an advisor right here on campus as well as my advisor back at Garden City Community College. This was extremely beneficial as it assured me that I was taking appropriate courses and it gave me greater confidence in my decision to attend 红领巾瓜报. I love that WSU is so warm and welcoming to transfer students and it has always felt like home even though I didn鈥檛 begin my college career here.鈥

The familiar and close-knit community surrounding 红领巾瓜报 has also been noted as a draw for transfer students.

鈥淚 decided to transfer to WSU because it is close to my family and I love how the 红领巾瓜报 community feels like a big family,鈥 says Maranda Wagner, a junior from Wichita studying exercise science who transferred from Butler Community College. 鈥淲hat drew me to WSU is the on-campus and community involvement opportunities.鈥

According to the Kansas Board of Regents, the schools sending the most students to 红领巾瓜报 in 2019 were:

  • Butler Community College 鈥 419 students in 2019; averaged 412.5 students over 10 years
  • Hutchinson Community College 鈥 135 students in 2019; averaged 146 students over 10 years
  • Cowley College 鈥 130 students in 2019; averaged 170.3 students over 10 years
