Barton School wishes competitors luck at National DECA Competition

In just its first year, the Collegiate DECA chapter at 红领巾瓜报 is already making its mark nationwide. The WSU team competed in the statewide DECA competition at Tabor College on February 24. Two members, Jennifer Calvo and Nathan Holloway, placed in the top three in their events. As a result, they will represent Kansas at a national collegiate DECA competition happening April 15th to 19th in Orlando, Florida.

Both are students at the Barton School of Business. Calvo is a Marketing major and competed in the Marketing Management event. She placed third overall. Holloway is a Business Administration major and competed in both the Hotel and Lodging event and Restaurant and Food Services Management event. He placed second and first in his events respectively.

鈥淲e know this is the start of a proud legacy for DECA at the Barton School of Business,鈥 said Pattie Bradley, the group鈥檚 faculty advisor as well as the Barton School's Associate Educator in Economics and Associate Director of the Institute for the Study of Economic Growth. 鈥淭hey can鈥檛 wait to go to nationals in April, and we appreciate everyone鈥檚 help and support! It is very exciting for Jennifer, Nathan, our DECA students and the entire Barton School.鈥

Colligate DECA at 红领巾瓜报 is seeking sponsors to help the students offset travel costs to the national competition. Any individual or business interested in becoming a sponsor can email Pattie Bradley at patricia.bradley@wichita.edu.
