Do I have to take English even if I'm not going to major in it?
Yes. Every student is required to take English 101 and English 102 (or the equivalent of these classes). These two classes are required before students are allowed to enroll in most classes at the 200 level and above at WSU.
Where can I find information about English classes? 
Look through the 红领巾瓜报 Undergraduate Catalog. English class information is located under the Liberal Arts and Sciences section. You can find these catalogs in the Rhatigan Student Center or online at the WSU website here at wichita.edu/catalog. You should also discuss class requirements with your advisor prior to enrolling
How do I know what English class to enroll in? 
Consult with your advisor about which classes you need to graduate. Every major is different so students need to keep track of classes by looking over their transcript and talking to their advisor.

Who do I talk to about the classes I need to take? 
You should always talk to an advisor before you enroll to make sure you are enrolling in the 鈥渞ight鈥 classes for your major. Many undergraduates are required to meet with an advisor before enrolling in order to get the hold lifted off of your account. You are also encouraged to research class descriptions to find classes that fit your interest.
What is the minimum grade for passing English 101 and 102? 
Students must receive a 70 percent or better to pass. A 70 percent is equivalent to a C- letter grade.
Who do I talk to if I'm having a problem in my English class? 

You should always address problems with your instructor first. Except in extreme circumstances, students who have not attempted to resolve problems with their instructors first will not be met with by other department members. However, if after an earnest meeting with the instructor the problem is not resolved then you should contact the proper English department personnel listed below.

English 011, 013, 015, and 100: During fall and spring semesters, students enrolled in these classes should arrange to meet with the Basic Skills Coordinator, Melinda DeFrain. She can be contacted at melinda.defrain@wichita.edu. If needed, the Basic Skills Coordinator will involve the Director of the Writing Program and/or the English Department Chair. During summer months, after consulting with the instructor, inquiries should be directed to the English Department Chair.

English 101 and all Online Courses: If students are enrolled in English 101, they should speak to the Director of the Writing Program. If the problem needs further attention the Director will involve the English Department Chair.

English 102: During fall and spring semesters, if students are enrolled in English 102, they should speak to Mary Sherman. Students can contact her at mary.sherman@wichita.edu. If the problem needs further attention she may ask to involve the Director and/or the English Department Chair. During summer months, after consulting with the instructor, inquiries should be directed to the English Department Chair.

English 210: Students enrolled in these courses should speak with the Director of the Writing Program. If the problem needs further attention the Director will involve the English Department Chair.

English 385, 680, 780: Students enrolled in these classes should direct their concerns to the Director of the Writing Program. If the problem needs further attention the Director will involve the English Department Chair

How can I get a hold of my English teacher? 
All English teachers are required to hold office hours every week. These are to be clearly posted on their office doors and listed in their syllabi. Visit your teachers during their office hours to get help with class work and questions. Your teachers will also provide you with other means to get a hold of them like email addresses or a phone numbers.
Where can I get help with my English assignments? 

Students are encouraged to go visit their English teachers during office hours for help on assignments. Students are also encouraged to visit the Writing Center to seek help on their written assignments. The Writing Center can help improve sentence, structure, and grammar problems within writing assignments.

What are the assignment requirements for English 011? 
English 011 is a pass / fail course鈥攖here isn't a letter grade assigned to the course. The class has five shorter paper assignments along with reading and homework.
What are the assignment requirements for English  100?
 English 100 follows the same basic requirements of English 101.
What are the assignment requirements for English 101? 

English 101 has four required paper assignments along with reading, quizzes and homework.

What are the assignment requirements for English 102? 

English 102 has three required paper assignments along with readings, quizzes, and homework.

Does the English department have an attendance policy? 

The English department has a strict attendance policy consistent with university practices. The department, further, makes no distinction between 鈥渆xcused鈥 or 鈥渦nexcused鈥 absences. Persistent tardies may also be counted toward total absences, though this will be made clear in the syllabi for the class. The English department has a policy that instructs anyone absent for 20 percent or more of the class meetings will automatically fail this class; however, instructors may appeal for waivers of this policy in unusual circumstances.

Do I have to buy textbooks for my English classes? 

There are required textbooks for every English class. You are allowed to buy, rent, or borrow textbooks as long as you have them for class. However, you are required to have the necessary textbooks to complete your English class work, homework, and paper assignments.
