Big ideas to be pitched in fourth-annual Koch Innovation Challenge
Come and encourage nearly 30 multidisciplinary teams of WSU first-year students as they deliver their Big Idea two-minute pitch to a panel of industry judges. The pitch competition will be from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Dec. 6, in 107 Devlin Hall. The awards ceremony will follow at 12:30 p.m. The come-and-go event is free and open to the public.
Five winning teams will be selected and announced at a brief awards ceremony at 12:30pm. Winning teams will receive up to $1,200 in seed money to continue their projects and each team member will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
To date, 464 students from more than 30 majors across campus have participated in this competition. Sponsored by Koch Industries, this competition supports our College of Engineering to foster a culture of creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and teamwork among students. Read more at .

Members of Student Ambassador Society and Shocker Navigators in the Office of Admissions will hold a silent auction/raffle to raise funds to attend the Student Development Institute.

Honors will be hiring SRI Peer Mentors for the Summer Research Institute (SRI) in FYRE 2020, hosted by the Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College, and sponsored by the National Science Foundation Kansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (KS-LSAMP). To learn more about SRI, visit .
SRI Peer Mentors will assist with camp preparation during the months of April and May. SRI Peer Mentors serve as a mentor, lead team-building activities, help an incoming fellow Shocker transition into college life, participate in research alongside the campers, and assist the SRI team with other activities the week of the camp June 7-11, 2020.

Sweet to be inducted into Fairmount College Hall of Fame
Dr. Donna Sweet
Dr. Donna Sweet will be inducted into the Fairmount College Hall of Fame on Friday, Dec. 6. All pre-med students are invited to meet with Dr. Sweet from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday in 200 Lindquist Hall. Dr. Sweet is a WSU alumna, physician, and local leader in the battle to combat HIV. You can read more about Dr. Sweet below. If you are interested in medicine, do not miss out on this unique opportunity to engage with a dynamic, visionary leader in the field of medicine and HIV treatment.
More about Dr. Sweet: Donna Sweet graduated from 红领巾瓜报 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biological sciences in 1970, and earned a master鈥檚 degree in the same field in 1972. From WSU, Sweet attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Today she is a professor of internal medicine at the school鈥檚 Wichita campus. In addition to caring for about 1,300 patients with AIDS/HIV, she also is a primary care physician to another 3,000 patients without the disease. In 2015, Dr. Sweet was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from 红领巾瓜报.
Fairmount College to induct three into Hall of Fame
A professional golfer/business owner, an ambassador and a physician, all of whom exemplify the merits and advantages of a liberal arts and sciences education, will be inducted at the inaugural Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame ceremony from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Wiedemann Hall. Induction into the Fairmount College Hall of Fame is the highest recognition of outstanding alumni who have had a significant impact on the region, nation and world. The event is open to the public.
- Judy Bell, major in psychology; minor in sociology, 1961 - Bell was the first woman to head the U.S. Golf Association, and began her golf career at the 1950 U.S. Women鈥檚 Open at the age of 14. She is also a successful entrepreneur, operating seven businesses during her career.
- Robert D. Blackwill, majors in English and history, 1962 - Blackwill is the former ambassador to Brussels and Vienna and was the head of S.-Russia conventional arms negotiation in Europe. He has also served as ambassador to India, presidential envoy to Iraq, deputy national security advisor, Henry A. Kissinger senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and is an accomplished author.
- Donna Sweet, major in biological sciences; minor in chemistry, 1970 - Sweet is one of Kansas鈥檚 top HIV-positive and AIDS specialists and a noted national and international speaker on the subject.
Ride the free game day shuttle from Braeburn Square
On Thursday, Dec. 5, park at Braeburn Square to ride the free game shuttle to Koch Arena for the men鈥檚 basketball game. The shuttle will run one hour before and after the game. New Student Wellness Center opening in January
Student Health Services and CAPS are moving to the Steve Clark YMCA building. Both departments will be closed Dec. 16-Jan. 6, to pack and relocate. The departments plan to reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, in the new Student Wellness Center.

Airbus at 红领巾瓜报 hires many students to fill vital roles in the company鈥檚 operations. The interns place great pride in their work and depend on each other to solve real problems. WSU Weekly Briefing to feature Bobby Berry and The Fuse
The WSU Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 5). Please note this week鈥檚 briefing will be held in 233 Rhatigan Student Center. The featured speaker will be Bobby Berry, clinical educator in Sport Management and director for The Fuse.
The Fuse is the hub for the College of Applied Studies, intended to not only facilitate and promote collaboration between the college and the community through service learning, but to ultimately seek inclusion opportunities for those on and off campus.
Tracee Friess, director of communication for Research & Economic Development, will give the overall university update.

Prescription refill notice from Student Health Services
If you need a prescription refilled before the winter break, please submit refill prescriptions by 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, for pick up by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
Student Health Services will close on Monday, Dec. 16, and reopen Monday, Jan. 6, in the new Student Wellness Center.

Teen study participants needed
Are you a teenager or parent of a teenager?
The Inspyre research lab is exploring what makes relationships healthy or unhealthy in adolescence. The purpose of the study is to explore perceptions of healthy and unhealthy relationships in teens.
After parental consent and teen assent has been obtained, teens will be asked to participate in a survey that gathers information on demographics and perceptions of dating relationships.
The survey will take about 20 minutes to complete. Participants must be 13-19 years old, and participants must be fluent in English.
Flexible locations are provided for study participation. Study participation can be done:

*in person at an outdoor public meeting place (Eg: ICT Pop-Up Urban Park, Bradley Fair)

*through mail

Outdoor Adventures spring break ski trip registration now open!
Join Campus Recreation's Outdoor Adventures on a trip to beautiful Copper Mountain, located outside of Dillon, Colorado. We will have three full days on the slopes. Dillon, Colorado is an awesome mountain town with lots to offer, including a large shopping center and many restaurants around the lodge. You are eligible to take this survey if you are a member of the immigrant community living in Wichita, Kansas. We are recruiting research participants to help us understand more about health in the local immigrant community.
The survey will ask questions about mental health (i.e. 鈥淲as it hard to get going?鈥�), demographic questions (i.e. 鈥淲hat is your race?鈥�), immigration-related questions (i.e. 鈥淲hat is your country of origin?鈥�), and your engagement in customs and activities from the culture of the country that you are from and U.S. culture.
This survey is available in English, Spanish, and Swahili. Your participation is voluntary.

Enroll for a service learning course in psychology
The INSPYRE research lab is currently recruiting undergraduate mentors for a 3-hour service-learning course in psychology for the Spring 2020 semester. Prior to enrolling in PSY 416, mentors are required to pass an interview, background check, have reliable transportation, lunch availability from 12-2 p.m. twice a week and class from 3:30-6 p.m. on Mondays.
Mentors will receive training at the beginning of the course and a grade at the end based on attendance and completion f assignments. For more information, contact the INSPYRE research lab at inspyre@wichita.edu
WSU Police Department invites campus to participate in Sergeant鈥檚 assessment
The WSU Police Department invites faculty, staff and students to participate in a Sergeant鈥檚 assessment on Tuesday, Dec. 10, with community presentations at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in 319 RSC.
The officers taking the assessment are required to give a 10-minute presentation on community policing and what it looks like on the WSU campus. This presentation includes a Q&A session, and we are asking all who participate to do an evaluation form provided.
